The textile industry is the second largest contributor to global greenhouse emissions, after the oil industry. The industry produces 1.2 billion tonnes of CO2 equivalent (CO2e) per year, according to a journal published on nature.com, 2018.
With shipping being a part of the process, it remains almost near-impossible to completely eliminate the process of shipping, as it is the most sustainable and time-efficient form of transport for international goods.
Changes to carbon neutral shipping have been adopted by companies worldwide in recent years. By offsetting the emissions produced by international shipping, it is possible to give back to the environment.

de Le Cuona remains ever committed to achieving a zero-carbon footprint. With a recent shift in our operations chain, we are proud to say we now ship in Europe through Freight Brokers; one of the UK’s leading courier brokers, with an incredible approach to sustainability and offsetting.

Through Freight Brokers, our Carbon Neutral Shipping promise is that for every percentage of carbon dioxide produced, Freight Brokers will offset at least the same amount by making the appropriate contribution to the United Nations Carbon Offset Platform, which in return will neutralize the shipment’s CO2 emissions. The calculation and offset of these carbon emissions is annually verified by the UNFCCC.

Freight Brokers alternate and change the projects they donate to on a quarterly basis. 1.4million kgs of carbon has been offset by Freight Brokers since March 2019. A small percentage of this, comes from de Le Cuona’s shipping.
Eric Lowitt, founder of green-business consultancy Nexus Global Advisors and author of The Collaboration Economy, says, “we used to be wrapped up in whether a product was green [and] whether the packaging was green. Now we're getting to the least sustainable portion of the supply chain: shipping.”
As a brand committed to adapting for the future, de Le Cuona is entirely conscious of the effects of our products on the environment. This is why we are proud to say that we can follow each step of our production chain from the very beginning, to the moment the fabrics are dropped off at our warehouse. By making changes in all aspects of our business, de Le Cuona is now one step closer to being green.
